Chicagos Dread Head Cowboy rode his horse to exhaustion and narrowly close to death while protesting gun violence against children on the Dan Ryan Expressway earlier this week, Cook County prosecutors said.
The horse will never ride again and may need to be euthanized, Assistant States Attorney Kevin Deboni said Wednesday, adding that one veterinarian compared Adam Hollingsworths actions to forcing an 80-year-old woman to run a full marathon.
Authorities found the horse collapsed on the pavement near 95th Street Monday, overheated, dehydrated, bleeding from the hooves, and with eyes so dilated they resembled cartoon eyes, Deboni said. The horse, coerced to run seven miles without horseshoes, also had sores beneath its saddle, which wasnt properly padded, the prosecutor said.
After differentiating the well-intentioned protest to the horses alleged poor treatment, Judge David Navarro ordered Hollingsworth, 33, held on $25,000 bail for animal cruelty.
The horse doesnt know it was part of a protest, the judge said. The horse only knows how it was treated. And ... it appears that treatment was criminal.
Hollingsworths protest began about 4:30 p.m. Monday as he galloped into the southbound lanes at 35th Street. Holding back traffic as police cars and motorcycles tailed him, he eventually exited at 95th Street.
The horse trotted at times, but was galloping for most of the ride, Deboni said. When the horse slowed down, most likely from exhaustion, Hollingsworth allegedly kicked and whipped it.
Hollingsworth, known for his civic activism, broadcast his protest on Facebook Live, saying I shut down the Dan Ryan! Kids lives matter!
But Deboni claimed that, in another video posted June 11, Hollingsworth said he would ride his horse until it dies.
The horse, in critical condition, continues to collapse during treatment, and is never expected to stabilize, Deboni said.

“Hollingsworth allegedly kicked and whipped it”
I watched the whole thing live.
He never once kicked or whipped it.
He isn’t a cowboy. They didn’t abuse their animals as they needed them. He’s just an a** looking for attention.
If it would have happened where I live, he would have been happy to be beaten...I won't show this to my wife...she would gun-up and head for Chicago.
FWIW, people on FB who know the guy and live in that area say the horse was NOT “injured” when the police loaded it up and took it away.
They know the man, they know the horse and they support his cause for kids.
They’re all saying he’s being “doxxed”, “cancelled” and so forth for having the nerve to say all live matter/kids’ lives matter.
Do we here really trust the Chicago liberal media this much?
Put the horse in a pasture at a rehab facility, put the moron in a cell block.
No need to dishonor and defile that poor horse’s grave with the likes of that guy.
I’ll stop right there.

“Bury him in the same hole as the horse.”
Only if he’s still alive and placed under the horse.
Yes. His supporters all say the horse is ‘fine’ and the DreadHead is ‘another victim’. Not that they care or even know me, but I don’t believe them. The rider wants to turn everything into a test of loyalty to him. No horseshoes on that hot pavement? No rest breaks?
Love it!111

Yes, really. There is actual viral videotape of him cussing out the police while riding on horseback through the ghetto. Why would you think that this goof wasn’t smart enough to vary his words depending upon where he was at?
The photo that you supplied has the State of Illinois Building in the background in downtown Chicago. This is immediately across the street from City Hall. I doubt that he was swearing when the mayor introduced him.
Where are the horse shoes?
“This story stinks of emotion-punching hyperbole and lies.”
Salamander, If it were possible I would have quoted your entire post. I believe NOTHING I hear from the Main Stream Media. All of their work is slanted totally for the LEFT.
This man would not have lived as long as he has if this is his habit. It would show up in his whole life in bold living color.
In the big photo posted of the officer meeting him by the horse, the horses head is up and his ears are not showing signs of the horse being in distress, as they would be if what the text of that article said was true.
How easy it is to destroy a person with lies.
Come quickly, Lord Jesus. I want to fly out of here.
Throw away his cell key.
The horse appears to have a cracked hoof going all the way up to the hair line. Not recoverable s it will never mend.
I used to shoe horses back in the olden days.
There are shoes make especially for use on pavement. No excuse for them not being on this horse.
Not that people normally ride horses on pavement for long amounts of time, *but* barefoot is less concussive shock than being shod.
I lived on a dirt road with my horses for years until the county decided to “improve it” with gravel, and I had to carry a hoof pick and check frogs every five minutes or so.
Then they added tar to make a “chip and tar” road and the horse got shoes for the first time in lives.
My dad had to weld boron crystals to the shoes to keep the horse from slipping *but* the time spent on the paved road was severely curtailed and I rode only long enough to swing up into the woods and ride the logging trails, instead of the whole road as I did before they messed it up.
I wish I had time to type out the whole description of horse hoof anantomy and function but shorthand, a horse’s hooves are made to spread and distribute shock and weight throughout its structure.
Shoes modify the hooves’ natural function, sometimes to a detriment.
The whole point of horseshoes is to minimize hoof chipping or breakage on hard surfaces.
If you want an analogy, trot yourself down a paved road barefoot, then try it wearing those horrible wooden Dr Scholl’s sandals to see the difference in how it feels.
Well, it’s not going to matter, now.
The enemedia has obviously down its job perfectly and the guy is now “cancelled” for life.
Odds are his inner city ‘farm’ for youth is shot to hell now, too.
That’ll learn him.
