No, the no knock warrant is at the heart of it. Even if they shouted "Police" right before they broke the door down, many people would reasonably presume that was a ruse and that it was a home invasion. I have had people shout outside my door and I can't tell what they are saying.
Any plumber's apprentice, or even a decent handyman, could block the drain to prevent the loss of evidence and uniformed officers could/should knock on the door during normal hours. Or, just wait until the place is empty and have a locksmith let the cops in. No shooting, no drama and evidence is preserved.
Absolutely.
You open your door in the middle of the night because some clown is standing outside shouting police open up, you’re asking to be subjected to assault, rape, murder, or maybe all three.
And it’s criminal for a judge and police to expect any normal, law-abiding citizen to do so.
A no-knock warrant should be used only in the most extreme situation, such as national security, or incontrovertible evidence that someone extraordinarily dangerous is holed up there. And half-ass evidence that there are drugs and money there ain’t it.
