I sure am glad I got to enjoy football when it was all about The Game - the competition, the strategy, the talent, the edge of the seat 4th quarter battles, the crowds, the sheer fun of it all. Those days are gone.
Now the post-game headlines are what so-and-so had on his helmet, who stood, who sat, and so on. The addition of a second anthem is so beyond the pale. The game is dead, a smoking heap of radical politics and bullshit.
I’m hearing different numbers of drop-off from last year’s opener for different games, but it sounds like it’s averaging about a 20% drop; as Rush pointed out today, the decline goes back to about 2016, when Crappernick started taking the knee. Calculate the total drop-off from that point, and I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t come to damn near 30%. Not many businesses can survive that without massive reorganization. And not many players will be seeing anything like the kind of money they were making.
And I am very glad.
Very, very glad.
