I hope there will be some schools that will allow Matthew Bocci to come speak. They should. Maybe only private schools will allow that. We know it will never be allowed in public schools.
My kids were 10, 12, and 14 when the attacks happened. The youngest one didnt understand at all. He has told us how at indoor recess that day, the kids would knock over blocks that they used to make buildings, because thats what all the adults were talking about. They didnt see the footage at school.
A few years ago, when we visited NYC as a family (minus the oldest as he couldnt be there with us), we went to the 9/11 Memorial museum. We asked our kids not to meet up with friends until that evening. They were so glad we did that together.
The 10 year old was 26 on the visit to the Memorial. He and his older sister were shaken and emotional going through the different exhibits. We all were.
It was hard for them to wrap their minds around it all, having seen things as children, and the difference from when you are an adult. You try to protect your kids as best as you can, but theres barely any way to understand the horror of that day.
Well you are fortunate your kids were protected from this. Mine have lived with this for 19 years. My daughter was 1st grade on 9 -11. A number of her schoolmates lost their parents including her future boyfriend. Neighbors, members of our church. Poor kids have dealt with death.
