We need to start treating them like the USSR of old. Unfortunately, the Pols are unwilling to do so. When we fought the Cold War, we had a hard core of patriotic polls, and the USSR did not have China's monetary ability to buy off American politicians.

Red China didn’t have that capability either until left-wing politicians here sold us out by giving them MFN status and lying to the public that trading with them would make them shed their ideology. (IINM, they wanted to do this with the USSR too, but then Reagan came along.)
