Pfizer could have results from its late-stage coronavirus vaccine trial as early as October, CEO Albert Bourla said Thursday.
The pharmaceutical company has already enrolled 23,000 volunteers in the phase three trial that began in late July, Bourla said during a Q&A with the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations, a trade group. It hopes to enroll at least 30,000 participants, he said.
We expect by the end of October, we should have enough ... to say whether the product works or not, he said.
U.S. health officials have previously said results from late-stage vaccine trials could come in November or sooner.
Pfizers potential vaccine is one of three backed by the U.S. thats currently in late-stage testing. The U.S.-based pharmaceutical giant has been working alongside German drugmaker BioNTech. The companies experimental vaccine contains genetic material called messenger RNA, or mRNA. In July, the company released promising data from its early-stage trial.
The phase three trial is expected to include up to 30,000 participants between the ages of 18 and 85 across 120 sites globally, including 39 U.S. states, the company has said. If it is successful, they expect to submit it for final regulatory review as early as October. They plan to supply up to 100 million doses by the end of 2020 and approximately 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021.
In July, the U.S. government announced it would pay Pfizer and BioNTech $1.95 billion to produce and deliver 100 million doses of their vaccine if it proves safe and effective. The deal was signed as part of Operation Warp Speed, the Trump administrations effort to accelerate development and production of vaccines and treatments to fight the coronavirus.

Vaccine in October would be a surprise.
I suspect we will have a good vaccine in just over a month, announced and ready for emergency use before he election and ready of general use in late November.
I regard this as such BS. Will they be able to answer definitive questions, FDA style, about any and all allergic reactions? This takes time.
This is how you kill people. This is why we have a Vaccine Court. $4 billion in awards and counting...
There is no way that Democrats would allow a vaccine to be released before the election. They will work behind the scenes, with sympathetic forces already embedded in those companies.
I am assuming a vaccine is 30% effective. Is that I have a 30% less chance of getting the virus, or, 30% less of affect of the virus?

I think some of them are on this discussion board based on some of the comments I have read and the lack of understanding as to how vaccines are developed to be safe and effective.
The answer would be yes. Thats how flu works anyway. You might not avoid flu completely but you may still benefit from your immune systems preparedness and be less sick as a result
Easy answer. Dont get one. But dont prevent others from exercising their choice just becuase you are an anti-Vaxxer

What dope would voluntarily take this in response to the scam? Crazy!
You do realize this is being run under FDA approval and oversight? So, yes they are going to have to provide definitive evidence of safety and efficacy.
Your assertion that an allergic response "takes time" - how long a lag time do you think those arise after dosing? If you bothered to look it up it is measured in minutes not weeks.
There are adverse reactions that can develop weeks after dosing and these can be serious. Worse they can be rare so that's why tens of thousands of study patients are required. Some vaccines these serious events occur in one out of 1 MILLION cases - thats why there is a federal program to reimburse those with rare adverse events.
If you believe there should be no approval until after 1 million study patients are evaluated there will never be another vaccine ever produced.
Pfizer is a very responsible company.
I see we have a few anti-vaccine nutjobs on FR.
Theres at least one in every crowd.
RE: Pfizer - the company that brought us erections and a covid vaccine...
People focus on viagra, but Pfizer has developed drugs for such conditions as neuropathic pain, rheumatoid arthiritis, alzheimers, Parkinsons, fungal infections, hypertension, depression and cancer.
It also developed vaccines for invasive pneumococcal infections.
So yesterday it looks like we might have a vaccine to start sending out by november 1st. this morning Fauci says ‘no way, maybe end of december’, supposedly tanking the markets.
Then an hour later, and actual company doing a clinical trial confirms they are on track for october.
How dare they?
