I don’t trust Rasmussen’s daily poll anymore.

Rasmussen's polls always have Trump going up and down. By the end of this week he will be up again. Who are these people who keep changing their minds about Trump?

It’s just noise in the polling. Slightly different people happened to answer the phone and talk that day. It’s normal. That’s why there is a margin of error. Polls are for ascertaining trends, not for day to day accuracy. Take out the noise, Trump is steady in the high forties. Biden peaked and is falling at the moment.

Those Rasmussen polls are Trump’s Favorability/Unfavoribility.

That doesn’t mean that the 3 percent who are unhappy that day are going to switch and vote Biden.

It could be they just want Trump to stomp harder.

Trump does well when the news of the day focuses on issues and developments favorable to him, and poorly when the news focuses on detrimental issues and on his personality and personal demerits. Such fluctuations in approval are more extreme as to Trump due to the pandemic-driven economic decline, his outsize personality, the extreme bitterness of the political opposition, and the unprecedented negativity of the news media coverage.

The Republican Convention was superb but one missing element was a campaign documentary that could have explained Trump's personality, summarized his first term, and put it and him in a favorable light. My guess is that the Trump campaign passed on it due to the expense and thniking that it would be stale and irrelevant in the conext of the convention. They may have been correct in such an assessment.
