I’m 66 and I’ve heard it all since day one...when I was very young, I thought they had a point....then it became clear....very clear....after Watts, it all became very clear.
I was raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. When I was an 7 year old boy, my family went to this celebration called 4th on Flagler. To get to it, you had park elsewhere and take a city bus to festival.
We just got finished watching the fireworks. And made our way to the bus lines. Well, large groups of Blacks were cutting then lines and bum rushing the busses. My WWII, Korean War Vet grandfather tried to speak up and say they need to get in line.
Suddenly a group them were in his face and screaming “Racial Prejudice, Racial Prejudice, Start a Riot.” They look ghoul like with no life or spirit in their eyes.
The next day, I asked my grandfather what a riot is. He said it is what blacks do when they don’t get their way. Their community in the 34 years since he told me this as failed to prove him wrong.
