Accused Kenosha shooter's lawyer claims self-defense amid new video

A 17-year-old charged in two shooting deaths amid a chaotic demonstration in Kenosha, Wis., earlier this week feared for his life after being attacked by rioters who chased and beat him, his attorney said Friday.

In a lengthy statement, the lawyer for Kyle Rittenhouse, John Pierce, said prosecutors rushed to judgment in charging his client to appease "divisive" and "destructive" forces without analyzing Tuesday's events.

"This was not a serious investigation," Pierce said. "Rather, after learning Kyle may have had conservative political viewpoints, they immediately saw him as a convenient target who they could use as a scapegoat to distract from the Jacob Blake shooting and the government’s abject failure to ensure basic law and order to citizens."

The shootings were recorded via cellphone and circulated online.

You might want to amend your opinion about running straight into the fire if you take the time to read this deep analysis of what actually happened. It appears that the kid actually got separated from his group to use an extinguisher to put out a dumpster fire apparently intended to burn down an auto store. He was trying to run from about a dozen thugs who cornered him.

I have no idea how you developed that notion. Rittenhouse was FLEEING from several older, armed attackers when he was finally forced to turn and defend himself.

Get the facts. Read this outstanding report -- by an attorney who has analyzed all available videos:

That’s one way to view it, but another way to look at it is that his instincts to go right down the middle of the street are the ONLY reason that excellent video of the ENTIRE attack on him was taken from multiple angles, posted online, and were impossible to bury.

It may also be the only reason he wasn’t isolated and killed instead.

Your post is not consistent with the facts. You seem divorced from reality. Kyle was perfectly within his rights to shoot those m’fers in self defense, They are the ones who attacked him, chased him and in the third instance aimed a gun at him with intent to kill him. He was being chased. He wasn’t running into the mob.

It appears that Rosenbaum mistook him for someone else that he had been arguing with earlier, based on clothing, and started chasing him. That’s when Kyle ran.

Why are you putting it in quotes?

People were attacking him. Protecting yourself to stop the attack is defense.

What was he supposed to do, just sit there and have the snot beaten out of him, or likely killed as the guy who got shot in the arm intended to do to him?
