The Democratic National Convention drew 6.13 million viewers on broadcast television networks ABC, CBS and NBC on Tuesday night, according to preliminary data, marking a 48 percent drop from the second night of the convention in 2016.

The Nielsen Media Research numbers come after broadcast ratings dropped by 42 percent on Monday night when compared to the first night of the convention in 2016. When including cable news networks MSNBC, CNN and Fox News, the total viewership on the first night of the 2020 convention was 18.6 million, an overall decrease of 27 percent from four years ago.

Speeches from prominent figures ranging from former first lady Michelle Obama to former President Clinton have been pretaped and without audience reaction, which has dampened the usual energy and excitement that accompanies presidential nominating conventions.

The D show Really stinks. Only really sickos or communistS or Nazis would want to watch it. They could have projected a respectable show That might have even had some appeal to potential voters, but chose instead to promote this anti-American rubbish and filth instead.

Wow, hard to believe with Joe phoning in his 11-second speech or whatever it was. LOL

imagine the people who are going to tune in to hear him speak. Keep the women and children at a safe distance.

These Quotes say it all:

"The DNC so far feels like one long ad on YouTube you’d usually skip," Huffington Post editor Philip Lewis.

"I mean you have to admit, blaming your own cringey terrible convention on Trump is some impressive pro-level spin," The Hill's Krystal Ball

"The cheesy videos that used to be the space fillers in the convention have become the convention," Washington Post columnist Josh Rogin.

"This feels more like a sad telethon than a rousing call to arms. I get the limitations of the format, but man this is slow so far," CNN host S.E. Cupp

"The PBS telethon vibes are so strong that the DNC is about to throw in a free tote if you call in a pledge the next five minutes," Daily Beast reporter Scott Bixby

"If this convention is proving anything to me it's that Democrats still definitely have the ability to f--- this up and lose to Trump again," Kyle Kulinski

"Imagine having all the awesome creative talent of Hollywood and the entertainment industry at your fingertips and nonetheless this is the convention you produce," 2016 Sanders campaign speechwriter David Sirota

My thoughts exactly.

I would love to see a slick production emceed by The Donald himself showcasing his accomplishments and juxtaposed with the Rat riots and Communism.

No one with half a functioning brain is tuning in and watching this Democrat Party Convention. The claim is out there in LaLa land, from the Fake News Media that 18,000,000 out of 330,000,000 American people have tuned in watching on TV. You need at least 30-35,000,000 folks to tune in to be called successful. This convention is far from it and is shrinking every day!!! Last night freak show was laughable and, not a word about the uncontrolled riots in major USA cities....”Pathetic” & “Unforgivable”!!!

Standby, POTUS,Trump comes up next week with his convention. Let’s how his gig turns out. The Democrats have failed miserably!!! Trump campaign in Pennsylvania this afternoon (RSBN, You Tube)!!! Tune in, folks & line up on the streets of PA, as Trumpie motorcade goes by to cheer & support him!!!

The ‘hype’ isn’t there. You can’t convey a virtual ‘hype’ through TV or the internet. Normally, you’d walk out of a convention...get a gain of five to eight points, and feel really good for two to four weeks.

I don’t see Joe or Kam getting that hype, and if they are lucky...maybe a brief week of two extra points.

Didn’t watch the convention, but I was just listening to the radio and a replay of replay of Kamala accepting the nomination... and I realized something very significant... Kamala has a monotone voice... Absolutely lacking in in highs or lows... She sounded extremely dull and her radio voice is terrible.

That is unusual... Most politicians have an interesting voice... Sometimes irritating, sometimes not but they always typically have an interesting voice. Listening to her was like listening to lexa giving you directions to the toilet.

66% drop from first to second night of 2020 is more relevant. You can’t really compare 2016 to 2020 with in person vs virtual.

I tried to watch cnn last night, didn't make 2 minutes.

I switched to pmsnbc, even worse.

I got out my Blue Ray DVD of "The Outlaw, Josie Wales" and promptly fell asleep to the sights of Josie spitting and shooting up the bad guys.

It's all good.

After reading the comments I need to caution our fellow Freepers. This article is about broadcast and cable rankings alone but does not include the online viewings, which are substantial to the way anyone under 45 watches things these days. Luntz on CNBC this morning said that the total viewership including online was pretty much unchanged from 2016.

I have transitioned a lot of my viewing that way (remember that the young are really cutting the cable cord!) and tend to watch a variety of opinions on live streaming broadcasts, like Rogan, Pool, DeSantis, Dore, Crowder, etc. instead of so much of the same old stuff, even from Hannity and Ingraham (Carlson seems to do a better job of freshness). I’ve even expanded my viewing to non-American media when I want to catch up on China and the rest of Asia.

If you think these ratings are the be all and think this is in the bag you are kidding yourselves.

The Grass Growing and Paint Drying channels had more viewers. 😋

And more entertaining, too. 😋

There are some great films from the early 1930’s on YouTube. They’re not blockbusters, but quite entertaining. Listening to speech patterns, enjoying the (now) antique automobiles and period clothing is half the fun.
