VACAVILLE, Calif. (AP) Crews were battling wildfires in the San Francisco Bay Area and thousands of people were under orders to evacuate Wednesday as hundreds of wildfires blazed across the state amid a blistering heat wave now in its second week.
Gov. Gavin Newsom blamed this extraordinary weather were experiencing and all of these lightning strikes for 367 known fires, including 23 major fires or groups of fires. He said the state has recorded nearly 11,000 lightning strikes in 72 hours.
Police and firefighters went door-to-door before dawn Wednesday in a frantic scramble to warn residents to evacuate as fire encroached on Vacaville, a city of about 100,000 between San Francisco and Sacramento. At least 50 structures were destroyed, including some homes, and 50 damaged.
This is an incredibly emotional and stressful time for most of us whove endured a number of wildfires over the last few years, said Sonoma County Sheriff Mark Essick.
Ash and smoke filled the air over San Francisco, which is surrounded by wildfires burning in multiple counties to the north, east and south. The so-called LNU Lightning fire is made up of several fires burning in five counties north of San Francisco, including in Vacaville, and had consumed 72 square miles as of Wednesday morning (186 square kilometers).

Nope.
7000; 350 resulting fires.
and that was for Sunday.
It was amazing, I sat out on the back porch under an umbrella and they went on for hours.
Is this because lightning is suddenly a new thing Gruesome?
Because fires this size NEVER happened when the State was Republican.

Thanks. I had forgot about this reality:
“It is a good thing the ham (amateur) radio network is up and running.....”
“Oh yeah, Governor Greaseball shut that volunteer group down.”
The smoke may just kill the virus
Thanks for posting this about: Police Scanner + Pro.
Not just for fires but for BLM unplanned events.
Scan before you go and as you are about to enter any new area.
The air quality in southern Arizona has been poor since Monday. I wonder if it is from CA fires.
Prayers up for everyone in the path of these fires.
My nephew works for CALFIRE and is on the lines as we speak.
Prayers up for him and his peers.
My wife’s best California friend has this incredible granddaughter. She is an EMT,local fire fighter and Cal Fire fighter, like your nephew. She had been in S. California taking care of illegals with Covid in hospitals.
She is on her way to rejoin her Cal fire fighting crew.
Respect and safety to your nephew battling these fires. Godspeed.
Fire jumped I-80 in Fairfield.
I-80 closed.
Out of control and burning in all directions.
We lost a CALFIRE pilot of a helicopter this morning that crashed at the Hills fire above Coalinga. Fire fighting is dangerous work. I pray for them and my nephew.
HOw could they with rolling brown outs. Guess they are hoofing it!
Nature is everywhere. We all live in the “beauty of nature” some nature is more rich in its beauty than the dung heaps that most live in now.
I love Carpinteria! Bacon avocado cheeseburger at Tbe Spot, watching dolphins swim by the family-friendly beach, Twice as Nice, AvoFest... such a lovely little town.
Thanks much. I’m in the Northern Sierra
foothills. Very smoky.
Thanks, we have some older friends who were going to drive on 80 yesterday to stay with family in the Sac area. Fortunately, they listened to my wife and didn’t go. He is very fragile with cardiac and pulmonary problems.
Nothing on our 3 county nixles, warning us of this problem.
The temps on I80 had to be over 100 during that traffic jam.
It could be, but the fire department is constantly driving around and giving out notices that brush needs to be cleared on one’s property, and other fire issues need to be taken care of. The LA Fire Department is very diligent in giving citations for cleaning up fire hazards.
