I never understood the need to lie, much less so use the absolutely stupid notion that “a youtube video” caused it.
Americans are used to terrorists attacking us. A smart politician who was cynically worried about a re-election campaign (as Obama was), could have just as easily made it an opportunity to “rally around the flag.”
The guilty one flees when not even being pursued. Their first instinct is to lie.
