Where can I see the whole ad, without the excerpts and commentary. I watched about half of this video, and the two clips of Biden 2008 vs 2020 were devastating, but they were extracted from the ad. I’d like to see the whole thing.

Precisely. Except that they could have cared less about Biden. They just needed to keep saying “presumptive opponent” to make Trump’s alleged crime relevant. I don’t actually think they expected the effect their words were having on other potential candidates, because their sole focus was Trump. So I don’t think they realized they were effectively causing Biden to be the nominee.
In their ideal case, Biden would have been Trump’s “presumptive opponent” until they didn’t need him anymore, and a better candidate would actually have won the nomination. But before they knew it, it was down to Biden or Jeremy Corbyn II and then they hit the panic button.
Your last three lines is basically what I left out earlier as a possible, small addendum, as I was also thinking along those same lines.

They will vote for the VP. In 2016 I talked to a voter who said he would not vote for Trump, but he was voting for Pence.
With Biden, it is clear that he is not going to serve long, if at all, as President. The VP nominee is going to be the Democrat Presidential candidate.
