Many years ago, I met a group of older women in Georgetown who in the late 1960s, were the group behind the petitions and lobbying to keep a Metro stop out of Georgetown. All very lovely, genteel Southern women. Two of the women involved in this group were sisters, and were black. Their father was a famous African-American surgeon in Washington DC in the 1920s and 30s. I wish I could remember their family name. None of them ever imagined ANTIFA. Their thinking was that the area would become more overrun with bars, restaurants, and “Arab shoe stores” more than M/Wisconsin already was.

Robert Moses who designed most of the infrastruce of New York City deliberately designed the Long Island Expressway, which runs east to west to have low bridges crossing over it going north to south.
This was to prevent double-decker buses, which where used in NYC at the time(1930’s) who would want to bring the common folk from the city coming out to the swankier spots on ‘’The Island’’.
