I can't convey to people who have never been there how that town lives in it's own little bubble which is absolutely unlike anything the rest of us experience in Pittsburgh or Texas or Des Moines.

I am very conscious of this. I can feel my unconscious evolutionary primate instinct to conform to pack/tribe social-group norms rising when I am there.

For one thing you can literally feel the money bubbling up at you through cracks in the sidewalks. There is no such thing as a closed and boarded-up business there. And you know that almost no one in that town does anything productive, they just stole it all from us. It makes your blood boil.
