I just finished a book on the Halifax Harbor explosion of 1917 where a ship with 3,000 tons of high explosives detonated in the harbor. That video gives me a better sense of what the explosion must have looked like.
The book mentioned that it was the largest man-made explosion (however inadvertent) until the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.
That was well over 3k. I worked on bombing ranges for years, and Ive never seen anything that large.
