Houston we have a problem, and the use of the passive tense can't hide it.

The name was "was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean 'eater of raw meat.'"

"Was given"? By whom?

Means 'eater of raw meat? in what language?

I don't know a single European language where "eater" or "raw meat" sounds anything like "esk" or "imo".

And why not? Because (depending on your source) the word Eskino is from the language of the Montagnais Native Americans of Canada or from the closely related language of the Algonquin Native Americans of Canada. In other words, it was a word used by one group of Native Americans to refer to another group of Native Americans.

https://www.etymonline.com/search?q=eskimo

So if the word "Eskimo" was invented by Native Americans ...

... and the word Eskimo is a derogatory racist word...

Then that means that Canadian Native Americans are ...

Move along. nothing to see here.

Esquimaux

A name derived from esquimantsic, in the Albinaquis language, eaters of raw flesh. Many tribes in the Arctic regions are still ignorant of the art of cookery.

“This name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean ‘eater of raw meat.’”

Well I doubt that but, they do eat raw meat....

Simple choice at hand. Don’t buy anything from Dreyer’s. If they want to engage in this Marxist bullschiff, then I won’t spend a dime on their products. These commies need to go hungry.

From Wikipedia: Etymologically speaking, there exists a scientific consensus that the word Eskimo comes from the Innu-aimun (Montagnais) word ayas̆kimew meaning "a person who laces a snowshoe" and is related to "husky" (a breed of dog), and it does not have a pejorative meaning in origin. In Canada and Greenland, the term "Eskimo" is predominantly seen as offensive or "non-preferred", and has been widely replaced by the term "Inuit" or terms specific to a particular group or community. This has resulted in a trend whereby some Canadians and Americans believe that they should not use the word "Eskimo", and use the classifier and typical Canadian word "Inuit" instead, even for Yupik (non-Inuit) people. Some people still believe that Eskimo translates to "eater of raw meat", which may be seen, or used, in a pejorative way. The word has been cited by some authors as being used by colonizers in the process of committing cultural genocide.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream will die a slow, self-inflicted death and they certainly deserve it.

Can we call it Inuit Pie?

Maybe some suggestive (sexy) innuendo to help market the name change?

“The name “Eskimo” is commonly used in Alaska to refer to Inuit and Yupik people......”

No one in Alaska uses the word. No One except tourists, and only once.

We just need to give every label a generic name like “food” and “drink” with a small picture of it. THAT should offend no one.

The insanity keeps spreading! There is no freedom of speech if mobs, media, and big business define what words we can use. Will the “White House” be next, accused of being racist? We are losing our freedom to the radicals.
