I fear the coming rebuttal Boomers are going to get from us Millennials will be great and terrible.
I am in my late '50s, and I have felt it in IT land for a LONG time. Programmers don't have it so hard, but guys like me who work in support and operations know a lot about systems that no longer exist. I try not to whine (some of the younger ones whine), volunteer for drudge things as needed (e.g. decommissions), and help out with writing and non-IT skills when needed to fill out an assignment. Also, I have had the most success in areas that aren't cutting edge (e.g. banking).

COBOL developers are still in demand to support those old systems.

I started my own business about 15 years ago. Have had to change the business model several times. These days the business about runs on auto pilot and I trade the market.
I’m much happier trying to figure out a way to make a living on my own.
