Chicago, the nations third-largest city, has beefed up the police presence in its downtown tourist district because of a recent rise in violent crime, according to a report.
An additional 200 police officers have been deployed specifically for downtown patrols, police Superintendent David Brown told Chicagos FOX 32.
They put together a plan because of the recent uptick and are implementing that plan immediately, Brown said.

Violent criminals killed? No theyve got a get out of jail FREE card at some future date by our monopolists.
They still have tourists?
[[[They still have tourists?]]]
Yes, as long as it wears the mask.
Protecting tourists. The criminals will just go to the South Side, where police are scarce and the pickings are adequate, if you don’t mind robbing in food stamps.
I thought less Police was the answer to all problems according to the left? Strange.
Yeah Im going to chicago, sarc
There are Walgreens, Walmarts and Food Stores on Southside Chicago still boarded up due to looting a month ago. Not surprised violence has creeped downtown.
Two hundred police who are only allowed to watch.
Tourist district, in current day Chicago? Is that like the Jurassic Park auto drive through the T Rex enclosure?
If shoppers in downtown Chicago feel threatened, then city sales tax revenues are threatened. However, the poor minorities living on the south side of Chicago are just chopped liver when it comes to feeling threatened. It is very important to plan a police allocation strategy that has the proper priorities. Chief Brown knows this is an absolute for job security.
Hope a lot of them came from the Mayor’s security detail.
I know that St.Louis floods downtown with police for when the Blues and Cardinals had games there. City knows the importance of keeping the downtown area safe. Trouble is, like Chicago, downtown is just a free (jump the gate) train ride away for ‘teens’. An overwhelming police presence cuts back on that.
I doubt it. I was last down there a few weeks ago, and I saw all of two people I would class as “tourists”. The streets were more deserted than I’ve ever seen, even on a Sunday or holiday...if I saw thirty people during my last round-trip across the Loop, that would be a lot.
I suspect the damage done is long-term.
Crime and violence has been spreading up the Red Line to the Loop and opulent northern neighborhoods, like River North and Lincoln Park, for some years now. Mayor Harm (oops I meant Rahm) Emanuel did nothing, and the lapdog press said nothing about it as well.
