I totally agree with you. They will probably be on a long-term downward trajectory like Detroit, Compton, Watts and Newark.
Our oldest daughter, now 34, went to school in Eugene and loves Oregon and Portland. She was telling me again the other day her plan is to move there in the next five to ten years. I told her the city is finished, people are fleeing, and it will be in steady, long-term decline. She said “Dad, that’s just in the downtown area.” I had to explain to her how that spills over to the suburbs and surrounding towns. Normally she’s a know-it-all, but this time she actually listened to Dad. She didn’t come out and say she agreed with me, but her lack of retort told me that maybe she is starting to pay attention.
House prices here in North Idaho are being driven up very fast now by all the refugees from Portland, Seattle and California.
