The problem is, we aren’t given a choice many times! These masks provide no protection from COVID-19! And spare me the bogus studies that claim to state otherwise. Covid is a respitory disease. That means it’s primary mode of transmission is in the air, not droplets. The virus is measured in microns. That means these ridiculous homemade masks and bandanas provide zero protection; the covid virus passes right through!
You want to go around wearing a useless mask, looking like a moron, go right ahead. Most of us will pass!

The mask help reduce mist and spray. Your breathing mist and talking spray or coughing and sneezing particles. Reduce the spray, keep a distance and less likely for the spread. Just keep your hands from your face and wash or disinfect.
