Several Cleveland Indians players met with the team's ownership on Tuesday to discuss changing the name of the team, following the decision by Washington's NFL team to change its name.
In addition to the players and team owner Paul Dolan, manager Terry Francona, president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti and general manager Mike Chernoff were also all involved in the dialogue, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported.
I was really, really happy and content to just sit there and let them talk back and forth, Francona said. Its one of the reasons that I speak so glowingly of our organization. Today was another reason why.
He added: Sometimes perspectives can be different and its good for everybody to hear that. ... Everybody was so genuinely honest, but also respectful in the way they gave their opinions. I was really proud of everybody.

No, I didn’t mean there is only one player on the team.
Okay, a play. Not all plays are well executed.

Technically, they are still not "Indians". Sure they are, if they say so. (and they pronounce it Indan)
In fact, one well educated Lakota told me that the word came from "Indios"....which, he said, means "with God". He said; "I'd rather be with God, than a native American."
The term is properly "American Indian".

The Cleveland Indians are named to honor a specific person. Early in their history, while they were named the Cleveland Spiders, they had a man who was the first of his kind. His name was Louis Sockalexis.
He was a Penobscot Indian from Maine. His remaining family and the Penobscots are very proud of that.
He was the first Indian to play Major League baseball, but had to endure racial taunts and slurs from the press and players from other teams.

In Wisconsin many people would mute their TV and listen to Bob Uecker announce the Brewer game. Not because of anything political, just that Uecker was great at doing both play by play and color commentary. I could see a lucrative market for people doing play by play via the internet.
