The resolutions of secession and the words contained within them as the reasons for seceding really happened, as were the stump speeches of the Confederate politicians. Leaves little to the imagination.
Here we go again. 4 states issued declarations of causes out of the 12 that seceded. Of those 4, three of them listed causes other than the Northern states’ refusal to enforce the fugitive slave clause of the constitution which was actually unconstitutional. Namely, they were tired of being screwed over economically by the Northern states via high tariffs and unequal government expenditures.
The very first thing the Northern states offered was slavery effectively forever by express constitutional amendment. They passed it through both houses of Congress with the necessary 2/3rds super majority and the president signed it and 5 states ratified it. The original 7 seceding states turned it down.
