They can spread infection in certain cases. In the Hajj study intermittent mask use was worse than no mask use and constant mask use (constant mask was better than no mask). But again that's for each person to decide, talk with the doctor about it. Read up, use disposables, etc.

People will shop more often if they feel they have some protection, particularly a variety of stores, mulriple stores, instead of limiting shopping as people have been doing. And as for spreading fear, that argument gets weaker by the day as masks become routine.
