As novel coronavirus cases in Florida continue to soar, 49 hospitals across the state have reached full intensive care unit (ICU) bed capacity. That's according to the latest report from Florida's Agency For Health Care Administration.
The ICUs in at least three Florida countiesNassau, Okeechobee and Putnamwere said to have reached full bed capacity.
A total of 971 ICU beds were reported to be available across the state, nearly 16 percent of the state's total number of ICU beds, as of Thursday.
More than a third (23) of Florida's 67 counties were reported to have less than 10 ICU beds available.
Eight hospitals in Miami-Dade, the state's most populous county, were reported to have hit full ICU bed capacity, with only around 15 percent of their total ICU beds available.
Hospitalizations in Florida have reached at least 19,334, according to the latest report from the Florida Department of Health.
Earlier this week, daily new cases in Florida, whose residents form about seven percent of the total U.S. population, were reported to make up nearly 25 percent of the country's total daily case count.
Over a quarter of the state's total cases are in Miami-Dade County, which has seen 72,317 confirmed infections to date.
The number of active cases in Florida began to rise on a sharper incline from about mid-June. Several reopened bars in Florida were closed again after customers tested positive for the virus.

Perhaps Pence is ‘deep state’...
“””A state full of old people only has 6,137 total to start with?”””
Florida has 6,137 ICU beds and 60,606 STAFFED hospital beds.
How many ICU beds and STAFFED hospital beds are in your state?
****Florida is a seasonal economy so I don’t know how that might impact ICU occupancy.****
Excellent point. However, things on the ground seem to be changing. There may be less seasonal travel now, and maybe more permanent resettlement.
remember, “elective” procedures are being allowed now, so...

As a Florida resident I can attest that many snowbirds did not return to their northern homes as they normally do in April.
I continue to see cars with Michigan, Ohio, New York, etc license plates being driven by geezers.
Exactly.
The story makes it seem an 85% ICU rate is abnormally high, when in fact, it is abnormally low.
Florida was such a huge win for President Trump, I have no doubt the chess players are moving their pieces.
Gee, my county in Florida has exactly 2 ICU beds on any day. That is all they have.
How May are due to heart attacks, cancer and other surgerys?
Don’t we still have two unused hospital ships?
The other issue with ICU beds is staffing them.
My daughter is an ICU nurse. And she is constantly having
recruiters call her with out-of-state contract gigs at
stratospheric rates. Obviously a supply shortage out there.
“Seminole County for instance, has a population close to 500,000. The list tells us that it has only 2 ICU beds available now.”
According to the state hospital status page, Seminole has 7 out of 73 ICU beds available.
Yep, and if they are floated down there they will come up unused. The scam is to put positive cases in for observation for a couple of days, then let them out. Feds get billed and hospitals get paid quickly with no runaround with insurance companies.
And the numbers Newsweak is reporting don’t match the FL website
Florida’s Agency For Health Care Administration. Is the same agency that has been cooking the books on COVID cases in Florida?
I think this is the democrats ploy.
If hospitals were as full of chinese virus victims you would see more deaths but we are not. They are dropping and we know the infection rate numbers are false as discovered in Florida where 300 some testing sites are reporting 100% infection rates including those kits sent back that never were used.
Florida’s Agency For Health Care Administration. Is the same agency that has been cooking the books on COVID cases in Florida? Does the report claim that the ICU beds are occupied solely by COVID patients or others in a mixed bag?
and how many of those beds are covid patients?
“””and how many of those beds are covid patients?”””
Of the 60,000 hospital beds, about 8,500 have a covid patient as of now.
There is no report on number of covid patients in ICU beds.
useless number unless you know what the norm is.
