Because it divides Americans up into categories to pit them against each other, which is exactly what the left wants. You don’t counter leftist identity politics by adopting identity politics yourself. You counter it by showing people how stupid and dangerous identity politics is.
The strategy that you propose is the one that the Republican Party has insisted on for decades.
