Nikki Haley positions herself to lead the post-Trump Republican party
Guardian ^ | July 10 2020 | Daniel Strauss

Nikki Haley has kept busy since leaving her post in the Trump administration as United States ambassador to the United Nations.

A former governor of South Carolina, Haley is often mentioned as a potential Republican presidential candidate for either 2024 or 2028 – depending on whether Donald Trump wins re-election in November.

There has even been speculation that Trump might switch out Vice-President Mike Pence for Haley as his running mate in the hopes of boosting his lagging approval numbers among the broader electorate, though there has been no strong evidence that that will happen.

Either way she has positioned herself as a national leader within the Republican party.

A rare woman of color in the party’s senior ranks, she has been fundraising for Republican congressional candidates as well as in the Senate and gubernatorial arena. She has set up a non-profit organization to boost her policy priorities. She has continued to pen editorials on foreign policy. And she has retained a small, tightly knit orbit of advisers.

Haley is one of the few high-ranking Republicans to leave the Trump administration on good terms. She has pledged to campaign aggressively for the president and has echoed some of the same arguments Trump has made on national topics such as cancel culture, defunding police forces and statue removal, although the tone and frequency between Trump and Haley vary dramatically. At other times she has kept her distance.

Haley is a woman, and of the right color for a broader electoral appeal...

If he needs broader appeal we are doomed already.

And per country caps are the stupidest thing I ever heard of.
In effect it means a big highly skilled country like Russia can end up with the same number of green cards as a tiny country like Togo.
All countries are not the same in population or skills levels. Bigger higher skilled countries can and should have more.

The supposition that we need even ONE more immigrant via H-1B is false. The whole thing needs to end. Changing rules to make it easier for country X is dumb for a program that is Anti American IT worker. AMERICA FIRST GET IT LIBERTARIAN?

That is a stupid war. It hasn't done any good to anybody.

Don't be silly, who would protect our poppy field production?

you may want to read up on where the GOP has stood on trade.

Then how did we get hosed on NAFTA and raising China to preferred Nation Status?

Yes, the governor of South Dakota. Very impressive. The other night she rode a horse into the arena at a rodeo carrying the American flag. Her speech at Mt. Rushmore was good.

NH was intended to follow “low-energy Jeb’s” 8 year 2016-2024 tenure in office.

she was being groomed by the Bush dynasty.

You want to end H1 B1 take it up with your congressman.
Trump never tried to end it till he temporarily suspended it after the coronavirus lockdowns wiped out 30 million jobs. And even so it was only after Tucker Carlson had taken up the matter on his program.

When was H1B passed? 2004.
When was Rand Paul first elected to the US Senate? 2010.
You can't blame H1B on Rand Paul.
Why don't you go find some cat to torture for a change?

Free trade in itself is good. As long as everyone plays by the same rules.
We had bad trade agreements. Trump has signed new fairer trade agreements with Mexico Canada Japan South Korea etc.

Yes, the message last night was a powerful one to the deceitful GOP. We’re not going to tolerate the backstabbing anymore. Support our president and his MAGA agenda or we’re going to give you the boot.

What Sessions did to Trump was utter betrayal. I bet he withholds any endorsement for his opponent.

The H-1B visa has its roots in the H1 visa of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952; the split between H-1A (for nurses) and H-1B was created by the Immigration Act of 1990. 65,000 H-1B visas were made available each fiscal year, out of which employers could apply through Labor Condition Applications. Additional modifications to H1-B rules were made by legislation in 1998, 2000, in 2003 for Singapore and Chile, in the H-1B Visa Reform Act of 2004, 2008, and 2009. United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has modified the rules in the years since then.

I see Trump trying to have a strong influence on the 24 candidate and we might get a decent pick, DeSantis maybe. If it’s Haley, Scott, the usual fair we will get our butts kicked. The GOP has shown it is absolutely incapable of governing in the congress, especially the House and with the country burning and the Constitution under attack we hear crickets from these cowards.

Honestly I don’t see the GOP ever winning another election on a national level after Trump. They are too stupid to do it. Trump has shown them the way but they can’t help themselves, they are all Bush GOP cowards. Once the GOP falls apart at the national level we will lose congress and the one Party governance of the Commun... er Democrat party will be entrenched. The result a nasty civil war or a new dark age for freedom.

Honestly I don’t see the GOP ever winning another election on a national level after Trump.

When has that ever happened to any major party in any Western Democracy?
Don't forget there was a time when the Dems controlled all the southern states. Where are they now? Dems had 5 straight terms from 1932 to 1952(FDR/Truman) but then the Republicans still took over for 2 terms in 1952 with Eisenhower.
