I’m confused, who fired shots at the shooter?

Christopher Fernanders (55) of Paxinos shot and killed Heather Campbell (46) and her date, Matthew Bowersox (52) of Mifflinburg, in a planned attack at Buffalo Wild Wings Friday evening. Following that shooting, as Fernanders was returning to his car, one Troy Sprenkle (46) of Sunbury, exited the restaurant and shot Fernanders 3 or 4 time, seriously wounding him. (paragraph)
