Sen. Collins refuses to say whether she’ll vote for Trump, signals she won’t campaign against Biden

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, refused to say whether she’ll vote for President Trump in November and signaled that she would not campaign against presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

The self-proclaimed moderate Republican from Maine told the New York Times this week she does not campaign against former colleagues. Biden and Collins worked together in the Senate.

“I do not campaign against my colleagues in the Senate,” she said of Biden, adding that she knows him “very well” from their days in Congress together.

“My inclination is just to stay out of the presidential and focus on my own race,” she added.

Collins publicly announced that she would not be voting for Trump ahead of the 2016 election.

Collins, who has represented Maine in the Senate since 1997, may face one of the toughest reelection campaigns of her career as Democrats from outside the state pour in money for her likely Democratic opponent, Maine House Speaker Sara Gideon, in an effort to take control of the Senate.

The race has been rated a toss-up by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Thu-than loves the attention she gets from the media by being elusive

She’s not alone. Numerous RINO Bush League “Republicans” have all signaled they will not be on Team Trump in the lead up to November.
Their position seems to be if he wins again. Fine. But, they will not be lifting a finger to help him.

She needs to do what it takes to win. We absolutely must hold the Senate. It’s totally irrelevant if she votes for Trump or not. It’s just one vote.
Without her Kavanaugh would not be a Supreme Court Justice today.

Your mistake is assuming Collins is on “our” side. Nothing could be further from the truth. Collins aids and abetts the ongoing coup. Frankly, given that she deserves to lose.

It’s a fools errand to count chickens on GOP judges. Kavanaugh has already betrayed us and he will do so again. I’ll care about Collins’ election exactly as much as Graham and Romney did of Trump’s in 2016: Not at all.

She didnt vote or support Trump in 16. Trump will win the ONE Electoral vote in the rural congressional district and lose the Commie district

Maine can split their Electoral votes but they will all go to Trump.

“She wants to win her election in Maine this year. I hope she does win. We need 51 senators to get the majority and the Majority Leader......”

Absolutely, we most definitely need her to win.

With states like Maine you are not going to get a true conservative. Thing is, Collins has voted for almost all of Trump’s judges. Democrats like Doug Jones (Alabama) have voted almost 100% against Trump’s judges including against Kavanaugh.

Tell me again how we’re going to win the house and keep the senate with idiots like this?

Simple. You're not.

The House will be D +15. The Senate is going to be a bloodbath, D +6 and maybe as bad as D +11.

The GOP is disintegrating at a rapid rate. They do nothing, and stand for nothing.

Things won't get better until the GOP is replaced, and in order for that necessary surgery to happen, things are going to get very dark for a while.

I don’t think they’re in a position to help him. Blue state Republicans simply want to avoid getting splashed. It’s the reality - he is toxic in blue states, thanks to the SALT tax provisions that cost a bunch of people a bunch of money. People making tens of millions a year and up made out like bandits. People making tens of thousands up to just over a hundred thousand with a lot of medical and other deductions got screwed. At the heart of Trump’s unpopularity isn’t his tweets - it’s Paul Ryan’s tax reform package that will be rolled back once Biden takes office.

Outside of one vote, Kavanaugh has been an excellent judge. True constitutionalist. You are not going to win every single case at the Supreme Court.

We can remember this during the next primary; but, for now, even a RINO like her will vote better than ANY Democrat.

You got it the other way round. Trump has never needed GOP congressmen to win. He did fine in 2016 even with Paul Ryan and a lot of GOP congressmen against him.
It’s the GOP congressmen who have needed Trump to campaign for them in order for them to win.

Wise up. What Collins said is mild. She’s doing what is necessary to win. Focusing on her own race is the thing to do... and say.
