What is a 38 special Snake load?

Basically a pistol round that mimics a shotgun blast round to manage those lovely rattlers you run into from time to time.
I have a Ruger 9mm that I keep snake shot in. Keep my Sig for regular ammo.

IIRC, Snake shot is #12 shot. It comes in numerous calibers.
