Wait, what? 1781 there were "free blacks". As in NOT slaves?! Butt, butt, butt...................... Then again, history is just old stuff from the past that doesn't apply today. Right?

Free blacks owned black slaves.

Along with indians.

According to one of the movies on the Revolutionary War, Washington issued an order that any slave who served 2 years or more in the Continental Army was free.

another important era of history is post civil war...the freedmen were incredibly hard working especially in the push west, but also in the cattle drives from Texas to St. Louis/Chicago/Montana, etc.

Some historians say about 20% of the cattle drives were freedmen
