I really don't understand the mindset of someone who would pay $1400-1800 a month for a 1-BR apartment. Obviously, someone who makes a much higher income than I ever did. In '86, I bought a newly built 2500sf house w/3br, 2 1/2 baths, dining, kitchen, breakfast nook, great room, game/den room, 2 car rear entry garage. Nice neighborhood and only a 1/4 acre lot. ...(moved from a 1/2 acre lot that took most of weekends to mow and trim, as it was corner lot with walks and curbs front, side and back . Initial payment, with escrow and PMI, $1400. In '93, I did a refi with NO escrow and payment dropped to $830. Divorced in '95. Doubled my payments later and paid off 30 yr mortgage in 20 years. Was retired in Dec. 2001 and the doubling of payments began when mortgage interest was so low that I didn't get a tax deduction. No payments since 2013.
