Isn’t a secessionist a traitor? Smart or not... He tried to destroy what was know as America.

It all depends on whether it is “the United States are” (the traditional phrase) or “the United States is” (the post Civil War Yankee-domination phrase).
If one is standing on “the United States are” and is fighting for one’s State, one is hardly a “traitor”!!!!!
