Texas Hospital CEO: COVID Inpatient Count 'Misinterpreted,' Level Of Alarm 'Unwarranted'
Just the News ^ | 06/25/20 | Daniel Payne

In Texas, focal point of national anxiety about a coronavirus 'second wave,' the state counts every COVID-positive hospital patient as a hospitalization for COVID itself, which may be exaggerating numbers.

Health officials in Texas are logging every single COVID-19-positive hospital patient in the state as a COVID-19 hospitalization, even if the patients themselves are admitted seeking treatment for something other than the coronavirus.

That policy may be serving to artificially inflate what ostensibly seems like a significant COVID-19 surge in the state. Texas has lately been the focal point of national anxiety over concerns that a "second wave" of the coronavirus has begun there after the state began reopening nearly two months ago.

COVID-19 hospitalizations there have been on a steady upward track for about the last two weeks, per the state's coronavirus dashboard, which on Thursday recorded about 4,400 coronavirus hospitalizations in the state. But at least part of that trend may be due to liberal coding policies by state officials.

Lindsey Rosales, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services, confirmed to Just the News this week that the state is categorizing every inpatient in the state with a positive COVID-19 test as a COVID-19 hospitalization.

"The number of hospitalized patients includes patients with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 even if the person is admitted to the hospital for a different reason," Rosales said.

Asked if inpatients in the state are tested for COVID-19 whenever they arrive for treatment, Rosales said, "Hospitals set their own protocols for determining when and if to test patients for COVID-19."

She said the state does not keep track of the patients hospitalized with the coronavirus versus those hospitalized specifically because of it.

you should be pissed off at the fraud being perpetuated against the American people, and not a guy on FR that posted an article. They ARE committing fraud by stating hospitalizations and deaths of people testing positive are DUE TO Covid, when that is not true.

Read plenty of articles where patients not even tested marked as whu flu positive. Follow the money. ($13,000 to $42,000 for the Dx)

Check out this

Anyone seen an article that guesstimates the amount of fraud that has taken place with hospitals and Covid overestimates??

- The Riots 10-14 days ago = more infections

- elective procedures now being admitted, but shown as Covid hospitalizations

- record number of tests with a harvesting rate of 10-20%.

-no word on declining number of deaths because it doesn’t fit the narrative

- scare scare scare

No.
They’re going by test results.

But it’s a significant point that the numbers do not show hospitalizations FOR covid.

I think they test every incoming patient.
After all, the facility will want to isolate cases from the general population.

Limiting elective procedures locally is a good move when ICU/ hospitalizations get close to capacity. Then bring them back when the load drops, which it will.

Nope read it again,

“Health officials in Texas are logging every single COVID-19-positive hospital patient in the state as a COVID-19 hospitalization, even if the patients themselves are admitted seeking treatment for something other than the coronavirus.”

[So if I break my leg and go to the hospital, and the test for Covid comes back positive, they say I’m at the hospital because of Covid-not my broken leg. Doesn’t Abbott know this. Why is he in such a blankety blank panic. This, along with the list of new symptoms is clearly getting out of control.]

The issue is that they need to put you in the ICU just in case your co-morbidities end up putting you in a casket. They need to take special precautions with the medical staff to make sure you don’t infect them. So it makes a kind of sense. For all intents and purposes, any coronavirus positive test means a patient is automatically sized up for a body bag, given how it attacks patients with other health conditions.

Bingo!

I asked this exact question several times almost 2 weeks ago - not just for Texas, but for every state.

Why is the GOP leadership not INSTANTLY on Hard Left propaganda like this?

We just stand in the middle of the ring, our fists hanging limply at our sides, BEGGING the Left to beat the crap out of us.

No fight, no imagination, no counter punch, no preemptive offense - pitiful.

But, wait!! I just read that Houston is now reporting 100% ICU load!

And, they’re reportedly putting refrigerated trucks on standby.

No, you made a mistake.

” COVID-19-positive hospital patient “

A [patient who tests positive is a “covid-positive” patient.

This like the debate about numbers of people dying FROM covid and people dying WITH covidT. hese are people hospitalized WITH covid, not For covid.

Amnd I think that’s a worthwhile point in itself.

This past week, Governor Abbott was focused on Positivity of testing, not Positive test results.

This Positivity BS is why Texas has further restrictions in place.

I can not find Positivity as medical definition or term.

So if I break my leg and go to the hospital, and the test for Covid comes back positive, they say I’m at the hospital because of Covid-not my broken leg.

Yes. The only question is, is this a large number or an insignificant number.

A similar article said only 1/3 of those in ICU in tx are covid patients. hardly a reason to limit elective procedures

> as a COVID-19 hospitalization

The implication of “a COVID-19 hospitalization” is that the patient was hospitalized BECAUSE of COVID-19.

If you go in for an unrelated malady (heart problems, car accident, what have you,...) and you test positive for CV19 you are counted as a COVID-19 hospitalization.

And elective surgeries are back on hold.

So much for my eye and tooth I’ve been wanting to address.

Haven’t used the insurance I pay for even once this year.

“but I’m covered”.

That’s not good, but it’s not what the poster said and has nothing to do with my post. I was saying he misquoted the article, which is plain to see.
