In some chess lines, black wins more often. In the King’s Gambit Accepted, one database had white winning 7% of the games, black 29%, and 64% draws. But I suspect that many of those games are computer vs computer.

Actually black’s strongest comeback in grandmaster level play is the Sicilian. Kasparov had won many games as black with that opening. But the vast majority of games are still won with white.

Side bar: I used to love chess, but it got to be too frustrating. In a book by Horowitz he offered a couple of variations. One was to hide your opponent’s side of the board (we used record album covers) as you arranged the pieces any way that you wanted. Your opponent did the same. When ready, we removed the albums, revealing the whole board.. and played.

Fun times.
