Wendell Scott was a badass. Built his own cars, ran his own team on a shoestring, and had to deal with *real* discrimination in the Jim Crow era. The other drivers respected the hell out of him.

I worked for Elmo Langley back in the ‘70’s...
Some of the smaller short track races, Wendell didn’t have a full crew...He would climb out of the car during a pit stop and help out changing tires or whatever...
Several times, if we went out of the race early, me and one of my teammates would go over and help Wendell’s crew...
He was a good guy...
