Depends on caliber.

I think some types of 40mm grenade anti-personnel rounds are still loaded with 00 buckshot - which is essentially the same as grapeshot. If I recall correctly, most everything in larger calibers (that had an anti-personnel type round in its product line) was switched over to flechette decades ago.

A unit I was assigned to in Vietnam once initiated a night time ambush with flechette rounds...fired by two M48 tanks about a thousand meters away. Set the rounds to burst just in front of the NVA as they were assembling after a small river crossing using previously concealed boats. Unfortunately, for the NVA, my unit had found the boats, guessed what they were for, and decided to monitor the site (instead of destroying the boats). Preplanned action. Once alerted, a Marine platoon (at a safe setback distance)was positioned to finish off what the flecheete didn’t kill.
Post-action clean-up was a mess.

Yes, properly executed, war is murder, pure and simple. As William Munny said in “Unforgiven”: “Fair has got nothing to do with it.”

That’s why police officers and soldiers are not and should not be considered as interchangeable. Entirely different attitudes towards the application of force and entirely different weapon sets. If the troops are called in to restore order, the civil authorities have moved beyond caring about individual “rights.”

Law and order is not a racist dog whistle, it is the civil, peaceful environment in which society (and law) functions. Ultimately, the state will, if necessary, kill its own citizens to maintain and/or restore it. If it is unable (or unwilling) to do that, the state falls. And rightly so.

Seattle is going to be a very interesting case of whether or not Democrat “leadership” is up to wielding sovereign power for the people under all circumstances. I personally think it will fail because it is too compromised by its left wing.

Thank you for your service, sharing your experience and ordnance used against the enemy.

I understand the different roles of civilian law enforcement and the military. Cops are trained to prevent personal and property damage, the use of chalk and yellow tape; whereas the military is trained to “kill people and break things.“
