Omly a total ass would come to that conclusion. And lately the National Review has a flood of them.

First Confederates then Washington and Jefferson.

The war in 1861 1865 was NOT a Civil War.
It was a war BETWEEN THE STATES.

More accurately it was the War of Rebellion or War of Southern Rebellion. Take your pick.

A Civil War is defined as “a war between citizens of the same country”

The CSA really (really, really, really) wanted to be a separate country. If they had won the war, they would have been. They didn’t, though, and therefore it was a Civil War (failed rebellion, really).

Want to define what type of war it was, win the war.
