Im no expert on the civil war but Ive studied enough to know that the people that fought on both sides forged the nation that we live in today. Theres was a true sacrifice, not the faux woke sacrifice of today. We remember the heroes of the Confederacy not because they fought to retain their peculiar institution but because without them we cannot understand the full measure of the horror of the Civil War or slavery.
I get your point. I have no appreciation for the cause of the South, but...what I do completely appreciate is that the terrible time of the Civil War, fought by both North and South MADE our country what it is.
It is PART of us, both good and bad.
And I have alway felt that each of us is who WE are is a result of good and bad elements.
A key difference between us and the Left is, the Left thinks evil can be eradicated by erasing the memory of it.
Conservatives believe that the best guard against evil is to be on watch for it, and to do that, we must recognize it and know it.
They fought because they were invaded. All they had to do to hang on to the "peculiar institution" is remain in the USA.
