WASHINGTON Leading members of the coronavirus task force warned White House officials about the health risks of holding large-scale indoor campaign rallies and advised against such mass gatherings, according to two people familiar with the discussions.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, and task force response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx both vocalized concerns internally in the last week about the safety of holding a rally on Saturday with as many as 19,000 people in an enclosed arena in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
But President Donald Trump and his campaign advisers are proceeding with the event, which is expected to draw tens of thousands inside and outside the venue who will neither be socially distant nor required to wear face coverings. They claim attendees assume a personal risk and that is part of life.
It has been nearly two months since the last coronavirus task force briefing and four weeks since Birx answered questions about the coronavirus pandemic from the White House briefing room.
Vice President Mike Pence, the head of the group, and his top aides have at times flouted their own administrations guidance, opting not to wear masks during trips in recent weeks.
While Pence and the president have tried to paint a rosier picture of the virus and project a return to normalcy, some members of the task force are eager to resume appearances from White House grounds and speak directly to the American people, per two people involved in the task force meetings.
There is no current plan to bring back the once-daily press conferences, according to a person close to Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, so he has found other outlets to offer his medical advice.

He’s decided moving forward is the best strategy to save re-election, and it’s exactly what is going to COST him re-election. Irony or something. I don’t think the rally itself is going to hurt anyone though
I just want the virus stuff to get better so we really can move forward, but it seems like everyone in Texas is worried again. And Florida Arizona and California apparantly
The original mistake was to give these two so much POWAH!
That’s over with now.
EVERYTHING the left does, in the age of Trump, is to DESTROY Trump. Smear him, impeach him, prevent him from running a campaign, to prevent his reelection.
They want to “CANCEL” him.
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
LANDSLIDE 2020.
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. I DID IT ONCE, I’LL DO IT AGAIN!
It is not a rally - its a protest.
Fauci and Birx do not run the government — they provide advise. The president considers it and them decides. Typical of NBC and the rest of the corrupt media — when it comes to Trump and Republicans, we must always do what the media and “advisors” say if it is negative to Trump. Otherwise, we don’t care about the people. I’m F’n fed up with the Democrats and media
NBC is so obsessed with this, they’ll go into mourning if it turns out there’s no fatalities from the Trump rally.
Every death in Tulsa for the next 2 weeks will be attributed to Trump.
Of course they did.....surprise, surprise...
Tulsa Protest
Here let me help clarify. The purpose of the lockdown was to flatten the curve. Calculating the area under the curve which is the total number of cases will show that flattening the curve doe NOT reduce number of cases, but controls stress on the resources. We have done exactly what was asked.
Because influenza is not running at this time, the ICUs are full of routine stuff (ICUs run at about 75% capacity). This means that there will not be a stress on the system. The natural spikes are timed appropriately
I am in a spiking area. I was responsible for the CoVID ICU at my institution the last 6 days. Despite spiking numbers — zero ICU admissions. additionally the state board of health is now including in hospital reports the median age and it is decreasing. Therefore younger people who are not at risk of hospitalization are getting this disease
This is how it works in nature — there is nothing to fear, we will come out of this biologically — the real question is will we come out free?
Fauci and Brix are both enamoured with their new status as Uber experts, someone who are worshiped by the public. As new celebrities, they have to give what their fans want and that’s what they are doing. Note their advice so far has been no better than a random choice, but their advice is invariably what the Left wants and what makes Trump look bad.
Protest marches and riots GOOD, Trump rallies BAD.
NBC is wringing its hands with sincere concern...
