During the Civil War one of my ancestors, Sylveter Akers, had some of his relatives who were hiding in a church burned to death by Union troops. Akers and two of his brothers joined ‘Quantrill’s Raiders, They made up for the situation by burning up Lawrence, Kansas.

Hi cousin. Sylvester Akers is a great uncle of mine. You are right that he had two brothers who also rode with Quantrill (Henry and Larkin I believe). I never heard the church story but I knew someone in the family was killed by Kansas Red Legs, which is why they joined Quantrill. Sylvester was with Quantrill till the end of war when Quantrill was killed.
