New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he will sign an executive order Wednesday to make Juneteenth a holiday for New York State employees and will propose legislation to commemorate the day as an official state holiday next year.
During his daily press conference, Cuomo recognized that Friday, June 19 is Juneteenth, the day commemorating the emancipation of slavery in the United States.
It is a day that we should all reflect upon, Cuomo said. It is a day that is especially relevant in this moment in history.

Most organizations simply provide a floating Holiday, so people can have the freedom of choice when celebrating something political or religious. Doesn’t make sense to keep piling up special interest Holidays or eventually there will be no work days.

White people will be required to report to diversity training boot camp.

That’s the date slavery ended in the Confederacy. Slavery did not end in the border states that did not succeed until much later.

Long overdue. After all, government employees dont get enough days off now. /sarc Which reminds me, when will NYS allow 100% of workers to return to work from their paid 3 month vacations?

Well I am happy to recognize the day that slaves became free due to Republicans.
I wonder how much of the holiday will be spent discussing how the democrats fought it?

June 19 is Juneteenth, the day commemorating the emancipation of slavery in the United States.
Except, of course, that it didn’t. June 19th is when slaves learned of their emancipation in Galveston, Texas. Other slaves heard the news earlier and some later. And no slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation in MO, KY, DE, WV, MD or states/counties/parishes under Union control on Jan. !, 1863. They had to wait for their states to outlaw slavery or the ratification of the 13th Amendment.
Facts don’t matter. Only their ‘truths’.
