But the point is the law mandates what the identifying information is. There are 17 points of identifying info. She missed most of them. She in fact violated Hipaa. I am not a fan of the law but she did break it.
It is a HIPAA violation because anyone close to the thirty seven old she was citing can figure out who it was. HIPAA is not just naming names, any leak that could cause someone to figure out who the patient is a violation.
That being said, placing non covid positive patients on a covid unit is wrong. Even if they have clinical signs of covid, you should be cautious. If Elmhurst hospital does not aggressively fight her accusations, some of what she may be saying could be true.
