"This monument is considered one of the nation's greatest pieces of public art and the greatest piece to come out of the Civil War," Vizza told WBUR-FM.

The backside of the monument honoring the 270 men who lost their lives in the battle is now covered with profane graffiti reading "ACAB" (All Cops Are B*stards), "F*** 12" (police), "BLM," "No Justice, No Peace," and "Police are Pigs."

She noted that the black men who fought in the 54th Massachusetts Regiment were not only risking death, but also the potential of being enslaved if they had been captured.

I don’t recall in what time reference the battle took place but I do recall that at sometime after the Union put freed blacks in to battle that the Confederate States passed a law that any freed slave that was captured in a Union uniform would be executed.

But on the subject of the desecration of the monument, the protesters assume that anyone this country ever thought worthy of honoring with a monument must be a scoundrel at best.

why would anyone be surprised by that? Most of the rioters have an average IQ of 85, and most can’t read beyond the 4th-grade level or even think for themselves.
