If true, why did he feel the need to board up the business?
People of good will(and common sense) of all colors understand the white/black/POC nonsense is a lie. People such as this understand if there's a divide, it's between those who invest 17 years of work in a business, and those who torch it in an evening in the name of 'justice.'
It's a divide between those who build, and those who burn and riot.
A more complicated question is if officers should go into a violent situation with a large risk that they will be prosecuted for it.
If they hold off till it's over they can just come in and let parametics pronounce the dead.
The riots are not helping to reduce racism, they are promoting it. The protesters “outrage” is fake, a pretext to create chaos and loot.
Action, meet consequence.

Exactly right. Eventually some hard working legal immigrant will open a liquor store that’s sells a few odds and ends that qualify as food. But the only jobs there will be held by immediate family.
