Health care experts have warned that Americans need to continue to socially distance and observe other public-safety measures to prevent the spread of the virus. The best way to avoid infection is to keep at least 1 meter apart and wear face masks and eye protection, according to a review of studies on COVID-19 transmissions that was published in medical journal The Lancet on Monday.
The virus is most commonly spread by droplets, that are released when people cough, or speak loudly. That means people joining protests, and the people already gathering in bars, in parks and on beaches across the U.S. without social distancing, are putting themselves and others at risk.

By the way.
Vietnam also, effectively shut all it’s borders, very quickly.
So there are huge differences. In addition, to just masks.
Did your mom ever tell you to cover your nose with a hanky when you sneezed? I had my mom tell me as well as the sisters at my grade school. And those sisters had rulers. Those rulers!
Is this yet another fake conveniently conjured up “study” like the fake Hydroxychloroquine “study” published in The Lancet that WHO used to declare Hydroxychloroquine dangerous?
I wonder if some kind of adhesive could be attached to the outer edge of the mask so it would seal the mask to our face. I bet if there was such a product produced, someone would make big money. It would be funny if ordinary chewing gum worked. LOL!
In this case, all the propaganda and lies has not made one click on my Lie-o-meter. Can you give me one that yours has detected so I can reset mine?
Updated 3 May: Albuquerque Journal: Social distancing born in ABQ teens science project
By Ollie Reed Jr
Fourteen years ago this month, during the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis, Laura Glass, a 15-year-old Albuquerque High sophomore, laid out her plan for slowing the spread of pandemics.
It was very much to the point. Close the schools and keep the kids at home...
But amazingly, and much more significantly, her work motivated research that resulted in the social distancing and self-isolation policies now being used to curtail the spread of COVID-19.
The inspiration, the sparks came from my daughter, said Robert J. Glass, a retired Sandia National Laboratories senior scientist. Glass was among those who built on Laura Glasss project to develop the vital strategies that are employed today...
In an exchange of emails with the Journal, Laura Glass, now 29, declined to be interviewed for this article.
Her father, however, spoke to the Journal by phone from northern Idaho, about 30 miles from the Canadian border, where he now spends part of each year...
Even before that staggering revelation earned Laura Glass third place at the 2006 Intel fair in Indianapolis, it was creating a stir on a much bigger stage.
On Halloween 2005, NISAC received a call, Robert Glass said. Could we prepare a brief for Secretary (Michael) Chertoff of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security?
The George W. Bush administration, concerned about bioterrorism in the wake of 9/11 and also worried about the next contagious disease outbreak, was looking for a plan to respond to pandemics. The NISAC brief was needed for a Cabinet-level tabletop exercise at the White House.
The question posed, Robert Glass said, was what could be done to avoid disaster if there was no vaccine and limited antiviral supplies...
The refined research suggested that in the case of more intense infections, closures might have to extend beyond schools to workplaces and social situations.
Concerns about the economic and social upheavals caused by insisting people stay at home led to tough opposition.
But after rigorous review and development by more than one agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made social distancing called Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions, or NPIs official U.S. policy in February 2007...
It has been very effective, Glass said of the approaches inspired by his daughters high school science projects. We would have been in a terrible state if we had not implemented these policies. The death tolls would have been so high. If we had done it sooner, we would have saved more lives....
Anything new is difficult, he said. You have to train people to do this well, without freaking out and calling each other names. But (coronavirus) is preparing us to deal more effectively with future pandemics.
And there will be more.

2 Jun: Daily Mail: Prof. Neil Ferguson whose grim warnings prompted Boris Johnson to order TOTAL LOCKDOWN admits Sweden may have suppressed Covid-19 to the same level but WITHOUT draconian measures
by Connor Boyd
The professor whose grim warning that 500,000 Brits may die from Covid-19 without action triggered lockdown has admitted Sweden may have suppressed its outbreak as well as Britain - without imposing the draconian measures.
Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, revealed he had the ‘greatest respect’ for the Scandinavian nation, which has managed to suffer fewer deaths per capita than the UK.
He made the comments at a House of Lords Science and Technology Committee today during his first public appearance since flouting stay at home rules to have secret trysts with his married mistress last month.
The epidemiologist - dubbed Professor Lockdown - has come under fire for his modelling which predicted half a million Britons could die from Covid-19 and heavily influenced the UK’s decision to rush into a nationwide quarantine...
The UK has a death rate of 575 people per million, while Sweden’s is significantly lower at 436 per million. As well as fewer deaths, Sweden’s GDP actually grew in the first quarter of 2020, suggesting it might avoid the worst of the economic fallout from the crisis...
Professor Ferguson admitted he was stumped as to why Sweden had recorded just 4,000 Covid deaths when some calculations estimated the country would suffer 90,000 without the measures...

So how come Belarus which had neither lockdowns nor compulsory face masks nor social distancing and their president encouraged everyone to go out and drink vodka in the bars, still ended up with vastly fewer coronavirus deaths per million than the UK US France Italy Spain and most countries.?
This article uses the metric system.
Not familiar with the place.
Any thoughts?
I have been looking at Worldometer the last couple of days. I wish that Minnesota would have those day-by-day graphs to show any increased changes. However, graphs with the daily data for all the individual states, I go here, even though it is a couple of days behind:
https://covid19.healthdata.org/united-states-of-america
Exactly. And folks please stop using mask data from countries like Japan and Vietnam. Huge difference in populations and comorbidities like obesity and diabetes.
The title leaves out eye covering. To prevent t the spread i e would need to dress the way I do at work N95 mask properly fit tested full face shield gown and gloves. Once that is on I can take it for about 10 minutes max.....
A cloth face mask? You are kidding yourself
I cannot find the study to read with a google search but market watch says it is a summation of available studies - of which I have not seen one. Im guessing garbage in garbage out but would like to see the article. The. there is the NEJM article that lists alll the reasons masks dont work. Im sticking with masks abs social distancing are window dressing on hysteria that do nothing
I thought yesterday was day 7-8 of protests. We should see it by now if there was going to be a huge spike. I have seen nothing not even one case in the last week
Of course I note all the politicians are telling all protesters to get tested. If they do we may see a spike in cases due to testing.....but would need to look at hospitalization. and death rates. Im betting we see nada but still wont open things fully at once like we should
Will become one of the great lies.
Vietnam has very very few over weight persons. Which in turn relates to much less fat related disease rate. Also, it is always summer time, you know hot. And mosquitoes, don't forget it is mosquito heaven which in turn means high use of the malaria drug PDJT said may be useful.
Comparing US to Vietnam is not very good comparison. Try India maybe match up better.
Sweden is such a mixed bag of statistics. It ranks #90 among the worlds’ populaton, yet it is quite high in its deaths/million population (443 deaths/million). Its daily deaths is at #12 among nations. Its new cases ranks #21.
I’m waiting for the explosion of COVID infections among Antifa, BLM, etc....
