The “right thing” to do is be aware of your situation and avoid this stuff. Turn around and drive away.
Spraying wasp spray at them is assault with a deadly weapon ( WASP spray contains nerve agents.). After they beat the crap out of you, burn your car, and steal everything you have on you, you will be arrested.
There are a lot more protestors than you are going to get with bug spray.
Unless you’re a politician. Then you’ll get the chance to take back what you said, claim you mis spoke, be given the courtesy fitting you office and sent home with a notice to appear that you can ignore if you want.
And in the extremely rare case that you are prosecuted and convicted you will be sent to a country club prison to serve your light sentance.
