There’s another possibility:
War with China or just to embarass us internationally.
For the war option: China has been upping its military preparedness for months. They have new and upgraded military airports just off the border with India. They’ve positioned assets there which you ordinarily don’t see unless an attack on India is coming. They’ve recently pushed in 10k troops into Indian territory. North Korea has reportedly also been upping their military preparedness for the past few months as well, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Russia is doing the same.
The lead up to any war with the USA, at least per the soviets, would begin with grey terror—attacks disguised as accidents, like the 2 major fires to hit structures in San Francisco (or maybe it was LA. This sort of thing would then evolve into actual terror attacks or civil unrest, orchestrated covertly by communist groups in the USA. The idea is to demoralize the country, and probably also to distract and divert resources.
