WHO pauses trial of hydroxychloroquine, once touted by Trump as a ‘game changer,’ over safety concerns

For months, President Trump has promoted hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for covid-19, calling the anti-malarial drug a “game changer,” asking patients, “What do you have to lose?” — and even announcing that he was taking the drug himself in an attempt to ward off the novel coronavirus.

On Monday, however, the World Health Organization announced it had temporarily halted its global trial of the drug, citing a new study that found a significantly higher risk of death among those taking hydroxychloroquine or the closely related drug chloroquine.

The big danger of Hydroxychloroquine is that it is decades old and cheap....the drug companies are doing everything in their power to discredit it!!!!

First there was big Tobacco then there was big sugar and now there is big pharma. Studies have ulterior motives so I vote for #2.

Here is the subject lines to the FDA pronouncement against using HCQ in an outpatient settings (where advocates say it should be used: when a person first get sick.)

FDA cautions against use of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine for COVID-19 outside of the hospital setting or a clinical trial due to risk of heart rhythm problems
Does not affect FDA-approved uses for malaria, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis

But it is ok for malaria, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis.

The heart issues showed up when infected patients were nearly dead and of course they would be in a hospital so this pronouncement will cost lives since the advocates of Zinc/HCQ are correct and it has been demonstrated around the world as effective.

WHO is adding to the death count.

Here is a link for a report about how many studies lead to false conclusions. But studies are not needed because there are many who have had this illness, some died, some survived without the experimental medication. So that is the control group. Zelenko’s numbers is the experimental group and since his numbers are good we need to follow his plan, or a similar plan that others provide.

I ordered quercetin with bromelain from amazon (I hate it that I am giving amazon business) since it too is a zinc ionosphere. There is a Dr Zelenko online that separated his patients into two groups, high and low risk and he basically follows your plan for the low risk but for the high risk he states it is crutial to medicate them early to fight off the infection and he uses HCQ/Zinc. Since we cannot get HCQ it is suggested to use a less effective ionosphere, quercetin, instead, and it is thought to about 1/3rd as effective as an ionosphere, so dosage would be around 1200mg with the 2000mg of zinc daily for the five days.

But high risk patients should be more proactive than you suggest, and zinc with an ionosphere is one way to be proactive.

That’s fine I have no basis to recommend that but people can make their own decisions I do recommend high risk people see their pcp or an ER even is self treating

and i did recommend high risk patients seek care with their pcp or an urgent care or ER. That is being proactive

A you tube commercial is not a study. People are welcome to do as they see fit but there are currently no studies that show effect of hydroxychloroquine in mild disease or prophylactically. Hopefully some will be completed soon

https://www.lindependant.fr/2020/05/25/coronavirus-hommes-politiques-medias-etude-foireuse-sur-la-chloroquine-le-professeur-didier-raoult-regle-ses-comptes,8902250.php

It is worth listening to Didier Raoult and here is his response to the notion that Hydroxychloroquine kills people. I ran it through Google Translate for English.

The Professor from Marseille published a video on Monday as a response to the famous study on hydroxychloroquine which demolishes the treatment he has been ardent defender of. A punchy video in which Didier Raoult settles his accounts.
Didier Raoult in the ropes? No! Heckled by a last study showing the ineffectiveness or even the harmful nature of hydroxychloroquine, Didier Raoult counter-attacks. While the article published in The Lancet - which shows that chloroquine increases the mortality rate in patients with coronavirus - prompted Olivier Véran, Minister of Health, to review the chloroquine protocol, Didier Raoult replied to his way via his social networks. A video posted on Twitter this Monday in which he is interviewed. And dismantles point by point the arguments put forward in the specialized medical journal. The intonation so special of Professor Marseille is the same. But the tone has definitely changed. He who denounces a “messy study”, between irony and good words. He who also claims to have a head start, charging politicians and the media.

“The coronavirus epidemic is ending as I imagined it is happening. We closed our first very very large study with more than 3600 patients which allows us to have a fairly clear vision of what is happening Most people have been treated with the combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin. And in this group, mortality is 0.5%, the lowest in the world. I don’t know if hydroxychloroquine is anywhere else kills, here she saves a lot of people.

“We did 130,000 tests, we diagnosed 5,000 cases, many of which were treated here. We believe we have done our job.”
“I was one of the first to say that the children were not affected. Now we know why, I will tell you next week. We also know that zinc plays a role in the severity of the disease. People who have severe conditions have lower zinc levels than others. We know that people can be very sick with very visible lesions on the CT scan while they are not short of breath. “
“This is the end of the epidemic, we will have to learn from it, with a little patience, the press does not live on the same pace as us. We are very calm about what we did, after you know, scientific, political, advertising quarrels have a time, time sorts all that out. “
Why these contradictions between the studies on hydroxychloroquine? Elements of response emerge when we note that the studies against this treatment are mainly studies carried out on databases, not on patients

“How do you want a messed up study with big data to change what we saw here?”
“Latest study: it’s a bit crazy. I understand that people have difficulties, journalists, politicians,” ah you say that, he says that “, it’s not my problem. Here we have 4000 patients in our hands. You don’t think I’m going to change because there are people who make big data which is a kind of completely delusional fantasy which takes data which we don’t know the quality, which mixes everything, which mixes the treatments of which we do not know the dose that we have given. It is certain that if you take hydroxychloroquine, you can kill yourself with it, if you take too much (. ..) How do you want a messy study with big data to change what we saw here? “
“There is a drift in medical research journals”
“The question is rather whether there is a drift in medical research journals, which I believe is comparable to that which we have seen in the general media, in which reality, the real world, tangible reality, the things that we can see, is twisted in such a way that in the end, what is reported has nothing to do with observable reality. It is perhaps only Alzheimer who will erase what I saw with my eyes. “
