For months, President Trump has promoted hydroxychloroquine as a potential treatment for covid-19, calling the anti-malarial drug a “game changer,” asking patients, “What do you have to lose?” — and even announcing that he was taking the drug himself in an attempt to ward off the novel coronavirus.
On Monday, however, the World Health Organization announced it had temporarily halted its global trial of the drug, citing a new study that found a significantly higher risk of death among those taking hydroxychloroquine or the closely related drug chloroquine.

They WHO gives this drug to millions yearly to fight malaria... Will those millions now be denied this drug?

I could care less what the WHO says or does. They are ground zero for a bombing or missile attack!
WHO is about as relevant as The Who (pop group) when it comes to controlling what drugs are prescribed in America. They are totally irrelevant.
Big Pharma sure has pull these days.
They should tell them its for abortions and everything would be fine.
WHO is (A) Hopelessly Politicized and (B) in the pocket of PRC.
the issue is how many people will benefit from taking this drug and on the other hand how many would be harmed and at what level.

HCQ has worked well for many. Leftist scientists do not care if more people die by denying this drug (with zinc) to them.
All drugs have dangerous side affects. I recently discovered that OTC Naproxen I was taking for a shoulder injury cause my blood pressure to go way beyond what the BP charts claim is Critical and to seek medical attention immediately. Naproxen is still on the shelf.
The greatest danger that hydroxychloroquine has is that it will make a vaccine unnecessary. I vote for your Option #1 as the real reason the WHO and others don’t want it to work. Also, Orange Man bad.

Hydroxychloroquine is:
1. A "dangerous" drug, that will make your heart explode just by saying it's name. No one should ever, ever take it. Ever.
2. A "life-saving" drug for the treatment of Malaria, Arthritis and Lupus. Using it for the 'Rona is killing millions of those who need it.
Politics trumps EVERYTHING!

Trump busted Tedros, head of the WHO, for facilitating China’s deception. Together they at minimum allowed the virus to explode all over the world. Probably the head of the WHO facilitated this after the virus was released from a Chinese bioweapons lab. Now the head of WHO looks poised to lose his job and millions of income from China. But no, he’s not pissed about that.
Whether hydroxychloroquine passes or fails, according to the left, orange man bad because he advertised hope for a treatment.
Or it does not help in hospitalized patients and is likely harmful in those critically ill with cardiac involvement. How about we stick to the facts and leave the politics out of it
